A Basic Princess Bubblegum/Prince Gumball makeup FAQ request made rebloggable for your cosplay needs!
zeebeey asked: Hello! I asked you the same thing for Marceline a really long time ago - but I was wondering what make up you guys have used for Princess Bubblegum's/Princegumball's skin? That would be a huge help - Thank you so much!
Hi again!
The Princess Bubblegum/Prince Gumball makeup we use is much more complex than my Marceline makeup, so get comfortable and get ready for a long explanation!
First things first: The complexity of this makeup will depend, in part, on your natural complexion (ooh, double entendre!). I am naturally very pale whereas coarsefur has a deeper, more olive toned complexion.
So, I’ll break it down into the characters we cosplayed just to make this easier later.
To begin, you’ll need:
- At least 24 hours to prep your base makeup
- Ben Nye Creme Base in CL-4 Bright Pink (x2) and CL-1 White (x2)
- Ben Nye Neutral Set Face Powder and hairspray for setting
- Light pink/dark pink powder (matte eye shadow works fine)
- Purple or magenta eyeliner
- Black mascara
- Pink lipstick and lipgloss
- Latex/non-latex makeup sponges
- Kabuki/powder brush
- Some sort of dowel/craft stick to mix the body paint
- Eye shadow brushes
You’ll need to mix the Bright Pink and White together to create a lighter pink for your base. This is actually quite easy to do!
Have you ever mixed acrylic paints together? If not, I’ll explain— making a lighter color means using a lot of white and a VERY small amount of the main color, in our case, pink.
What you’ll do is melt your bases— place one of each in the microwave for 5 seconds or less (you could probably use a blow dryer for this instead though I’ve never done it before). Then, using your craft stick, take a bit of the pink and mix it into the white. Mix until blended, then place all of your bases in the fridge for at least 24 hours to harden.
Fast forward to tomorrow! You now have a light pink, a dark pink, and a white base to work with.

Princess Bubblegum/Darker Complected Individual: Thickly apply the light pink you made yesterday to create a solid, opaque base. You may have to apply more than one layer in order to get adequate coverage. Once you have done this, you can begin contouring to create a natural look. Unlike Marceline, you don’t want to make yourself gaunt. You want to have a youthful, round look. Highlight the apples of your cheeks, the bridge of your nose, and your chin. Add the darker pink where needed. Apply your eyeliner, mascara, and any eye makeup you might think would coordinate well with your outfit. For example, if you’re doing Bubblegum’s classic/default dress, wear purple/pink eye shadow. Now, apply makeup wherever else you have exposed skin and seal that shit!!!

Prince Gumball/Lighter Complected Individual: So, this one is pretty fun because while you’re pink and sparkly and NPH-y, you still have to be A MANLY PASTRY BAKING MAN!!! For the lighter complected cosplayer, you don’t need to have as thick of makeup (imo, you still must paint yourself pink, because light skin =/= pink bubblegum skin) because if you’re like me, you already have fairly pink undertones. Once you have your base on, begin contouring as you would for any male cosplay— use makeup to sharpen your features, create cheekbones, etc. I won’t go too much into this here, but use just about any male cosplay makeup tutorial as a guide except USE PIIIIINKK~~**~*~*!! This is one of the few situations wherein I actually color my eyebrows, because they’re an important part of Gumball’s character design. Doing so will also help you create a more masculine because you will be making your brows thicker and more distinct. This is where your darker pink will come in. You also have the option of creating a custom blended color that matches your wig. Complete your contouring, painting, etc and seal!
